Old Rat

Baby Face

Shy-Shy looking deceptively youthful. Aaw my poor old-man rat is losing his appetite. He refuses his dry rat food mix. He can be coaxed to eat baby oat breakfast though. His breathing has become a little more shallow lately and after the loss of his brothers I think he’s slowing down. He has his routine though (just like an old man!) and watches the younger boys at play time from his box in the cage. It’s desperately sad really. I tried to put my (usually separated) three rats together but it looked like they were going to freak out, and I didn’t want to put any stress on Shy-Shy as his health is a bit iffy. I have a feeling it’s his last days now, poor old thing…

Today my lovely rats have been mostly eating boring old rat food.

  1. Hi,

I was looking up photos of rats and I stumbled upon your website. I showed it to my fiancee and he loved it as well. We are rat lovers as well. We have five furry family members (seven if you count our hamsters) and we think your site is wonderful. We loved looking at the photos of your babies and were delighted with all the information you have about them. We’re sorry about Pip. Our rat Lem looks exactly like him so we were very sad to hear about his passing. Lem also has mycoplasma and we are treating him with baytril and prednisone. We give him semi-sweet chocolate chips as a reward after medication time and it does help with the respiratory problems a little bit. We let him roam free in our room because he’s a senior now and we want him to be happy. We are huge fans of rats and would love to send you some photos of our babies and speak with you some more.

  2. Thanks so much for the nice comments – I’ve not blogged on this site for ages and it makes it seem worth doing more when folks appreciate it.
My old boy Shy-Shy has long since passed away – I must get round to doing a big post on him and his life…

    Cheers,

    Julie

  3. First of all I hope you can excuse me for my bad English, I love what you wrote, So sweet It made my eyes water because it reminds me of my first rat that passed away, I have many rats and I all love them so much, but my first one that passed is the one that has that special place in my heart a little bit more than all my others. He even slept by my side in bed. At the moment my dear Milo is slowing down, but his best friend Eddy takes good care of him.

    Thanks for website

  4. Glad you enjoyed the website, thanks :)
